First baseman, 1880, 1883-1891. Inducted 2012.
A native Cincinnatian, “Long John” Reily played for both the National League’s Cincinnati Reds and the American Association’s Cincinnati Red Stockings. He was a fine defensive first baseman whose talent with the glove preceded his talent with the bat, though his hitting eventually came around. He twice led the league in home runs and slugging percentage, and twice came in second in batting average. He hit for the cycle three times in his career, including twice in 1883.
