A Cincinnati native, Rose holds the Major League records for games played, plate appearances, and hits. Made 17 All-Star teams (13 with the Reds) at five different positions. His 44-game hitting streak in 1978 is a National League record. Hit .370 and got on base at a .485 clip en route to a World Series MVP in the Reds’ 1975 victory over the Red Sox, the team’s first championship since 1940. The most recent player-manager in baseball, in 1989 Rose was placed on baseball’s permanently ineligible list for betting on baseball.
